Monday night double-handed

It was blowing a little last night, about 26 knots at the top I think. Steve and I were due to continue our monday night dinghy escapades by taking an RS Feva out each, but we thought it best to both not break the kids' boats and possibly get wet.

So FarrOut was dragged out with Steve driving and me running around. No kite flying for us that night although it was perfectly possible as it turned out. We had a great time and learned some more stuff about the boat with no bodies on the rail.

We were pleased to get a fourth place on corrected time in PY. Scoline did a good job of winning, Folio in 2nd and Sole Bay in 3rd.

The  French Olympic team have moved into Weymouth Sailing Club in force, great to see them and I think they'll enjoy their training week in our bay in advance of the olympics next year. The forecast is for decent wind until the middle/end of the week and light shifty stuff after that so that should be perfect for them.

Double Handed at WSC Sat 31st July

Richard and myself went out for a pleasant sail on FarrOut in the double handed series. Although it was quite busy I think we made a good show of ourselves and we would have won if we hadn't have gone the wrong way. This meant a diversion back to "B" mark when we were almost at "M". We caught up Chloe II (the eventual winner) at "M" and sailed underneath them with Rich sitting on the rail, me tidying up string and Mich' Desj' (the autohelm) steering - fun stuff.

We saw about 20 kts of wind and the no. 4 and full main was the right choice meaning that we could bring on mainsail as we could handle it. The tight spinnaker runs were fun with no weight on the rail, but we only had one round up which we managed to get back on the rails.

Double Handed

Stephen and I did the first race of the double handed series on saturday in the rain. We were too busy generally to put any oilys on so got soaked. We got a second but were really hampered as the wind died and we were flying the No. 4 headsail; we'd started off with No.4 and a reef.

Spinnaker poles are sooo last year! We successfully flew the kite down the downwind legs without a pole leaving us clear to gybe willy-nilly. It's a good option when short handed maybe....
